Located in the peaceful village of Maranakatte, near Kundapura in Udupi District, the Sri Brahmalingeshwara Temple is a serene and spiritually significant shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple, believed to have been consecrated by Adi Shankaracharya, is a blend of historical and mythological importance. According to legend, the demon Mookasura was granted a boon by Lord Shiva but lost his ability to speak due to his arrogance. Later, Goddess Mookambika helped him regain speech, and he was consecrated as Brahmalingeshwara.
The temple’s architecture showcases traditional Dravidian and Hoysala styles, with intricate carvings and a central sanctum housing the Shiva Linga. Pilgrims visit the temple to seek divine blessings, especially during festivals like Maha Shivaratri and Shivaratri, when the temple is filled with devotees offering prayers.
The annual Gende Seve procession during Makara Sankramana attracts numerous devotees, and the peaceful environment of the temple offers a spiritual retreat. Nearby attractions include Kollur Mookambika Temple and Maranakatte Beach, adding to the charm of the region. The Sri Brahmalingeshwara Temple remains a hidden gem for those seeking both spiritual solace and cultural richness in Karnataka.
